What We Should Know About Shipping Personal Items Abroad

Moving abroad is easy for singles with very few personal items to take along. It is a different story for those who has some sort of collections that they want to take along with them wherever they go and they will have to find means to ship these items abroad. For those who are married and have children, moving can be overwhelming and stressful with so many things to take care of.

Whether you are a single person or someone with a family, moving abroad involves many legal documents to submit and approvals to obtain before you can be sure of moving. Once all the legal documents have been submitted, and the approvals received for you and family members, the next thing to take care of is to make sure that you will have a place to stay when you land.

Going through your personal items can be overwhelming and this can be a big headache if you and partner are hoarders. You know that it is not practical to take everything with you and you will have to decide what to leave behind and what to take with you. You will have to bear in mind that shipping your personal items abroad is not cheap.

Another headache is reminding your family members to only pack what is necessary to avoid paying a huge sum on the shipment of personal items. Before you even start to pack, it is wise to do some homework to learn more about what you can and cannot ship abroad and the quantity. You wouldn’t want the custom officers to think that you are doing business and made to pay duties or taxes for something that you can easily get in the new place. So be careful about quantities.

If you are thinking of shipping your large screen TV or some electrical appliances that look new, then make sure that you have the receipt ready to prove when you bought it in case the item caught the eyes of the custom officer. Items that you have owned for more than six months are considered by the customs as personal properties.

Personal items such as jewelleries are better kept close and safe in your handbag or hand luggage when you fly. Even though the shipping company you have engaged is listed under Shiply and should be reliable and trustworthy, high value items such as jewelleries shouldn’t travel in a container. If you need information on preparing items for international shipping, you can visit www.shiply.com to read about it.
